Last Saturday evening the Rudowske family went with a group from our church to Lutheran Night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for a little Major League Baseball! It was quite fun and we actually lasted all nine innings plus a fireworks display with all five kids AND (believe it or not) we actually had a fun time! (As opposed to most times in the past where everyone wants to leave by the 4th inning). We had the requisite cotton candy, peanuts, and dippin' dots that the kiddos have come to expect. The Rangers let fans bring in food and plastic bottle drinks in soft side coolers, so we were able to enjoy the good life without paying like it. In the midst of all the fun, I compiled a list of things I learned about baseball and other stuff in Texas so here goes:
I learned:
Cotton candy shrivels into a hard mass within 1 hour of being opened due to the intense humidity. (It is sort of like the chocolate sea foam candy that dad used to buy out of the bulk bins at Meijer for those of you who know what I'm talking about)
Lutheran chorales like the one that sang the national anthem are the best kind of singers - we truly are the singing church.
After Sidney Ponson had a less than stellar year in St Louis, he went to play for the Texas Rangers (he was the winning pitcher)
The Rangers had their best month of baseball ever in May concluding with the win we saw May 31 which made them 19-10 for the month.
You can be right outside of a multimillion dollar stadium, but if you are at ground level with food, fire ants will still find you.
40,000 people singing 'Deep in the Heart of Texas' is more annoying than I ever imagined it would be.
More so than that, my children have been indoctrinated while in Texas schools to sing the song and even pledge allegiance to the Texas flag (horrors!)
Tailgating is fun for all ages!
Fireworks make a huge mess. After the fireworks display, we walked through the roped off zone to our car and were amazed at all the debris strewn there from the fireworks launching. It was astounding.
Everything really is bigger in Texas.
Hope all is well with you and have a good week!
