Today, Tuesday, was the last day of a very long weekend here in Botswana for President's Day. We have been able to spend some good time together as a family (and some of the time has been not so good as some of us are still a little tired and occasionally cranky from the time adjustment). We have spent some time out with Drs. Chuck and Janet Wilson who run the guest house we are living in. Chuck is in administration at the Assemblies of God Bible College here in Gaborone and Janet is a linguist, doing some work with a San language group west of where we will be. Also in the guest house compound is Aaron and Margaret, Aaron does a lot of handy work around here and to be honest I am not sure what Margaret does, I think she has been off work the whole time we've been here due to the President's Day Holiday, but she does something connected to the Bible college. Finally, there is Jocelyn the intern who has a ton of studying to do, but who comes out to our Botswana Missionary Kids Camp Setswana lessons once in a while to say hi.
In honor of President's Day we had a little fireworks. Not really the good kind though. We had a powerstrip that had a little short in it, so Maya wiggles the cable a little bit and it exploded, completely severing the cord leaving a part in the outlet still and the other part in her hand. It happened at an outlet right behind my head and Matt was standing right next to me (for disciplinary reasons of course, but that's not the point right now) amd so it happened right in front of his face. Nobody was hurt at all, just a nice singe mark on the outlet and we had to find the breaker to restart the refrigerator. Thankfully each outlet has a switch right next to it to shut off power to that outlet, so we could flip the switch and remove the plug in remains. So, praise for our safety that no one was hurt in our fireworks display.
As for progress, I took another stab at driving today, going from the house to the grocery store and back. The traffic was light for the holiday and the trip went well. I feel like I can do it now, but I still need just a few more times with quiet in the car for concentration. Driving on the open road won't be a problem. So praise for that too.
Lastly, we ask for prayer for our immigration paperwork which we hope to submit tomorrow. We have a temporary visa (30 days) at the moment and we ask for the process to be smooth to get our residency papers before that visa expires. You can also pray for wisdom and patience as we continue to make this transition. Das is alles!
